Convoys for Ukraine is a four-day road trip from Glasgow to Lviv in a 4x4 you bring to donate to Ukraine. It is a hands-on way to turn a European adventure into direct frontline logistics impact, run by the proven volunteer team at Car for Ukraine.
The road is long. The mission is bigger. And you do not have to find a vehicle alone – we can help you source an affordable 4x4 or pick-up in the UK.

FAQ
- What cars does the army need?
Preferably 4x4 vehicles. Pick-ups and SUVs are the priority for the soldiers. Vans (like the VW Transporter) are also very useful.
- What are the cars used for?
The vehicles are used for many purposes. The main one is moving soldiers and goods to and from the frontline. These vehicles are the logistical backbone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Is it better to donate a car or money?
The soldiers need cars. Infantry wins battles, logistics wins wars. But to get the cars to the soldiers we need funds to pay for ferry tickets, vehicle insurance, customs documents, fuel, etc. So both help us continue our road to victory!
- How do we communicate before the trip?
We always set up a WhatsApp group for the next convoy, where we share relevant information and where you can already meet the group.
- Do you help with the documents?
Yes. We take care of the paperwork, including export and import, so you don't need to worry about it on the trip.
- Are we insured on the trip?
We only insure the cars. You are responsible for your own insurance, and we can't take responsibility if something happens to you on the trip.
- Is Lviv safe?
We can't guarantee that there won't be missile or drone attacks on Lviv during your stay. Lviv is one of the safest and most western cities of Ukraine, but missiles and drones still reach it sometimes. The chances that something happens to you are low: we closely follow the air-raid apps and stay in hotels with bunkers underneath.
- Should I bring other donations on the trip?
Other goods need different documents, and we don't handle those. To keep the border crossings smooth, we ask everyone not to bring donations other than cars. We are in contact with NGOs that can get other donations into Ukraine.
- How do we communicate during the trip?
We use walkie-talkies in the cars, so we can always stay in touch. We use them mainly for practical things, like when the next stop is.
- Can I speak to someone and ask questions before going?
Yes, of course! We have a team of volunteers who have joined the convoys more than 10 times and are happy to explain everything in detail.
- How much does the trip cost?
We stay in decent but affordable hotels, take budget options on the road and have dinners together in Lviv. The personal costs of each trip (hotels, food, plane tickets) are around €800, depending on your own spending.
- Who else is joining the convoy?
Usually people from several countries join, mainly from Europe. We have a great team of regulars from the Netherlands and Germany, so you can be sure it will be an awesome group on every convoy!
- What do we do once we are in Ukraine?
We always put together a programme in Lviv. It varies from trip to trip, but we always visit a Car for Ukraine workshop. Sometimes we visit the Unbroken Foundation or take a guided tour of the city to learn more about Lviv and Ukraine's history during communism and the wars.
- Who arranges the hotels, restaurants and plane tickets?
You are responsible for your own reservations and tickets. Before the convoy we tell you where we are staying. In Lviv we always pick hotels with a bunker, so you are safe during an air raid.
